Stickypoint 1.0.9: how did it go?

Nine questions, each answered with one of four buttons. Every question has an optional box for anything else; leave it empty if there is nothing to add. Your answers are saved on this page as you go. At the end, one button opens an email with everything filled in, or copies the answers so you can paste them into Discord.

Before you start: make sure Stickypoint says 1.0.9 at the bottom of its settings panel (open it with a click on the Stickypoint icon in the menu bar, or choose Check for Updates there).

Known issues we are still chasing

VoiceOver on the macOS 27 beta can freeze the pointer for a while. On our test Mac, with VoiceOver running and the pointer on a Discord message, VoiceOver's own helper processes held pointer events for up to 45 seconds before any app received them. During that time Stickypoint (and everything else) looks frozen. Turning VoiceOver off and on again with Command-F5 twice cleared it. If this happens to you, that is what it is, and a diagnostics file will show it.

Discord's first seconds. Discord builds its accessibility information only when asked, and it can take from a few seconds to over a minute. Until then only the menu bar and the Dock can be reached. 1.0.9 keeps asking; if you only ever reach the menu bar in Discord, wait a minute, and if it does not clear, send a diagnostics file.

Not done yet: Apple Music's playback bar at the bottom of the window, and widgets inside Notification Center (desktop widgets work). VoiceOver's cursor position cannot be read by another app, so after keyboard use the next push starts from the element that has keyboard focus, or from where the pointer was left.

1. With VoiceOver on, does VoiceOver read each Discord message when the pointer lands on it, every time, with nothing silent?

1.0.8 sometimes fell silent on a landing (the pointer was put back on the wrong spot mid-push). 1.0.9 fixes that.

2. In Discord, can the pointer leave the menu bar and reach the channels and messages, including right after Discord opens?

Discord takes a while to build its accessibility information the first time; 1.0.9 keeps asking and keeps what it knew.

New in 1.0.9: any key press makes Stickypoint stand aside (no moving, no announcing) until your next push on the trackpad.

4. Does a landing now say the role and state, like "Wi-Fi, switch, on" or "Small, radio button, selected"?

New in 1.0.9: name, then role, then checked or unchecked, on or off, selected, a slider's value, a field's text, or dimmed.

5. Desktop widgets: does landing on a widget read what it shows?

New in 1.0.9: a widget reads its title and the text inside it, and buttons inside a widget are landing spots.

6. The Dock: when you push down at the bottom of the screen, does the hidden Dock appear and the pointer land on it, reliably?

1.0.9 waits longer and nudges the pointer at the edge while the Dock slides in.

7. Scrolling past the end: at the last visible item of a list, does one more push scroll it and land on the next item, in Discord, Finder and System Settings?

1.0.8 jumped out of the list when anything sat beyond it; 1.0.9 scrolls the list until it really ends.

8. Two-finger double taps at the trackpad edges: better now?

1.0.9 allows a slower tap and a little finger movement. If a tap is missed, the diagnostics file now says why.

9. Full-screen apps: can you reach the menu bar (push up from the top, or a two-finger double tap at the top edge) and get back?

1.0.9 checks whether the menu bar is really on screen and slides a hidden one in.

10. Anything else? What should the next version fix first? Free text. If anything reads as blank, wrong or frozen, the most useful thing is a diagnostics file: open the Stickypoint panel while the problem is on screen and press "Collect diagnostics and email them". The file now says what happened.
